Learn about venomous wasps
and effective pest control methods

The Yellow Jacket Wasp can be deadly ...

The Yellow Jacket Wasp can attack as a group and may sting many times which is very painful and highly inflammatory particularly if stung around the throat or other glandular parts of the body.

Deaths are known to occur when a European Wasp stings a person after the wasp has been swallowed. The European Wasp may enter a soft drink or beer can (they like sugar) and if swallowed, it will bite and inject it's venom inside the persons throat which will causing massive swelling of the glands and possible asphyxiation (suffocation).
Paper Wasps can be very aggressive in hot weather and may cause severe pain from their sting. They are about 20 mm in length, and should be approached with caution.

Wasps - where they live ...

The European Wasp can be identified by the bright yellow and black stripes on its abdomen.
European Wasp nests are usually found in the ground, rockeries, tree stumps, wall cavities and roof voids.
The paper wasp has brown and orange stripes and is usually found in a small papery nest usually hanging from a horizontal surface, such as, on walls under ceilings, window sills, awnings, shrubs and similar locations.

Wasp Control Services

WARNING: DO NOT attempt to eradicate a wasp nest yourself, unless you have the complete range of protective equipment and professional knowledge essential in the circumstances. If you see a European wasp on your property you may attempt carefully to find the nest in your locality.
RECOMMENDED Best Pest Control Practice: That the pest control professional use a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide - as the safer, more effective method. A professional pest control service for Yellow Jackets varies depending on the size of the house, ease of access to various areas to be treated and access to the nest site.

Termites facts

Q
Are white ants the same as termites?
 A
No. Ants are no relation to termites and in fact, there is no such thing as a white ant. Termites have been incorrectly referred to as white ants purely by the colour of their bodies and similar looking to an ant.

Q
How quickly can termites eat my house?
A
There are many variables involved in how much damage termites can cause to a home. It is possible however that some species of termites can eat a room of your home in a few months.

Q
If I have termites in my yard will they eat my house?
A
It is possible for termites to travel 100 metres or more to access a food source such as your home. It is therefore a necessity to have a termite inspection carried out to your home if you discover termites in your yard, followed by a preventative program.

Q
My neighbour has had termites treated in their house, will they travel to my house?
AYes, it is possible that if your neighbour has had a termite treatment carried out the termites can be moved on to your home.

QAre non toxic termite treatments effective?
AMost definitely. We regard them to be the leaders in termite control technology.

QDo I need to have routine termite inspections if I keep an eye on the house myself?
AYes, we highly recommend that an annual inspection be carried out as per the Standard as it takes a highly trained eye with the use of instruments such as moisture metres to detect termite activity.

QWhat can I do to assist in the prevention of termite control?
AWhen a termite inspection is conducted you will be supplied with a report that lists recommendations to reduce the risk of termite attack. These could be poor drainage, timbers in contact with the ground, leaks in plumbing etc. These are called conducive conditions and should be rectified.

QIs my suburb susceptible to termite attack?
ATermites can strike anywhere and at any time throughout Kenya

QMy house is built on a concrete slab so I'm safe right?
AWrong. Concrete slab constructed homes are regarded at very high risk of termite attack due to the termites entry points being concealed and are usually discovered by the home owner.

Why should I hire a Pest Management Professional?

Your home is usually your greatest financial asset and pest and termite control can be difficult due to varying structural elements and soil conditions. We have access to such resources as specialized products, tools, and training that help us successfully eliminate your pest and termite infestations which most homeowners simply don't have.

Are the materials you use safe?

All pesticides are inherently poisonous and our state certified technicians are trained to handle them with respect to human safety and the environment. Alpha Pest Control believes strongly in choosing the safest approach to solving each pest occurrence, and of course, all materials we use are registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Do I have to sign a long term contract?

No, absolutely not! Some of our service agreements do ask for a one year commitment; however, none of our contracts are binding. If you decide that you no longer want our service, there is absolutely no penalty for cancellation.

Do the pesticides you use cause cancer?

No. None of the pesticides we use have any carcinogenic effects as established through pre-registration laboratory testing required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Do you utilize any non-chemical methods of control?

Alpha Pest Control practices Integrated Pest Management (IPM) which utilizes many non-chemical control techniques such as sanitation, harborage reduction, exclusion, sealing, mechanical controls and environmental management.

Does the treatment have an odor?

No. All our applications are odorless or have low-odor alternatives. Ask your Alpha pest professional if you have concerns about what you should expect for specific treatments.

How long does treatment last?

Treatment effectiveness varies by type of pest, likelihood of re-infestation and product longevity. Ask your Action pest professional about your particular circumstance and they can give you a realistic estimate.

I am considering a do-it-yourself alternative. What is the bottom line on pesticide risk?

The danger of any pesticide is all about exposure. The do-it yourselfer often chooses over-the-counter products that are much more toxic than the professional materials we utilize. To compound this mistake, the homeowner is not trained in the application methods we utilize that virtually eliminate any exposure to people and pets. If you eliminate exposure, then you eliminate risk.
